Size & Resizing Policy

Overview

SIZE & RESIZING POLICY

At Hansuli, we understand that jewellery is personal. The right fit makes a piece comfortable to wear and helps protect it from unnecessary stress or damage.

Because jewellery comes in different designs, constructions, thicknesses, finishes, and stone settings, not every piece can be resized in the same way.

This policy explains Hansuli’s approach to ring sizing, bangle sizing, bracelet sizing, chain and necklace adjustments, custom sizing, and post-purchase resizing.

Importance Of Correct Sizing

Customers are responsible for providing accurate measurements when placing a custom-sized order.

An incorrect size may result in:

  • Discomfort
  • Jewellery slipping off
  • Excessive pressure
  • Bending
  • Structural damage
  • Difficulty wearing or removing the jewellery

Customers are encouraged to obtain professional measurements where possible, particularly for high-value or intricate jewellery.

Ready-Size Jewellery

Some Hansuli jewellery may be available only in standard sizes.

The available sizes will be mentioned on the product page or communicated by our team.

Customers should select the size carefully before placing an order.

Where a product is specifically marked as non-resizable, it may not be altered after purchase.

Custom-Sized Jewellery

Hansuli may offer jewellery in customer-selected sizes.

Custom sizing may be available for:

  • Rings
  • Bangles
  • Bracelets
  • Anklets
  • Chains
  • Necklaces
  • Other jewellery where technically feasible

Custom sizing should be confirmed before production begins.

Once production has commenced, changing the approved size may not be possible or may involve additional charges.

Customer-Provided Measurements

When a customer provides a measurement, the customer is responsible for ensuring that the measurement is accurate.

Hansuli may provide general guidance on how to measure, but measurements provided by the customer remain subject to the customer’s confirmation.

If jewellery is manufactured according to the size confirmed by the customer, an incorrect measurement may not be considered a manufacturing defect.

Ring Sizing

Ring sizing depends on:

  • Ring design
  • Metal thickness
  • Ring width
  • Stone setting
  • Pattern
  • Engraving
  • Construction
  • Presence of multiple metals
  • Existing size

Not every ring can be resized.

Rings That May Be Difficult To Resize

Resizing may be difficult or impossible for:

  • Full eternity rings
  • Fully stone-set rings
  • Intricately engraved rings
  • Hollow rings
  • Very thin rings
  • Rings with complex traditional patterns
  • Certain handmade designs
  • Rings with stones around the entire circumference
  • Certain plated or specially finished rings

Hansuli will inspect the ring before confirming whether resizing is possible.

Ring Resizing Up

Increasing ring size may involve:

  • Stretching, where technically appropriate; or
  • Cutting and adding metal; or
  • Other professional resizing techniques.

Additional silver or other material may be required.

Material and labour charges may apply.

Ring Resizing Down

Reducing ring size generally involves removing or adjusting a portion of the ring.

The method depends on the construction of the ring.

Resizing may slightly affect:

  • Surface finish
  • Engraving
  • Pattern
  • Oxidised finish
  • Plating

Hansuli will advise the customer where a significant visual change is expected.

Ring Resizing Limitations

A ring cannot always be safely resized by multiple sizes.

Large size changes may affect:

  • Ring shape
  • Stone alignment
  • Structural integrity
  • Design proportions
  • Setting security

Hansuli may recommend remaking the ring rather than performing an extensive resize.

Bangle Sizing

Bangles require particular care because many traditional bangle designs are not designed for repeated resizing.

Depending on the design, Hansuli may offer:

  • Size adjustment
  • Opening/closing adjustment
  • Reshaping
  • Remaking
  • Replacement

Not all bangles can be resized.

Traditional Bangles

Traditional or handcrafted bangles may contain intricate patterns or structural details.

Resizing such jewellery may alter:

  • Shape
  • Pattern
  • Surface texture
  • Finish
  • Proportion

Hansuli will advise whether resizing is technically appropriate before proceeding.

Open / Adjustable Bangles

Some bangles may be designed to have a degree of adjustability.

Customers should not forcefully bend an adjustable bangle beyond its recommended range.

Excessive bending can result in:

  • Cracks
  • Metal fatigue
  • Deformation
  • Breakage
  • Solder-joint failure

If the bangle requires significant adjustment, please contact Hansuli.

Bracelet Sizing

Bracelets may be adjusted by:

  • Adding or removing links
  • Adjusting clasps
  • Changing chain length
  • Adding extension components
  • Other suitable methods

The available method depends on the bracelet design.

Additional material and labour charges may apply.

Chain & Necklace Length

Hansuli may offer chain or necklace length adjustments where technically feasible.

Possible adjustments include:

  • Adding an extension
  • Removing links
  • Changing clasp position
  • Rebuilding a section
  • Adding or removing chain components

The final appearance may vary slightly after modification.

Anklet Sizing

Where anklets are offered in custom sizes, customers should provide accurate ankle measurements.

Because ankle size can vary during the day due to temperature, activity, and swelling, customers should measure comfortably rather than selecting an excessively tight fit.

Custom Sizing For Children

Where jewellery is made for children, parents or guardians should provide appropriate measurements and ensure that the jewellery is suitable for the child’s age and activity level.

Children’s jewellery should not be excessively tight or loose.

Parents/guardians are responsible for supervising children’s use of jewellery where appropriate.

How To Measure Your Ring Size

Customers should preferably have their finger measured professionally.

If measuring at home:

1. Measure the intended finger. 2. Measure at a comfortable room temperature. 3. Avoid measuring immediately after extreme heat or cold. 4. Do not pull a measuring strip excessively tight. 5. Consider that finger size may vary throughout the day. 6. Confirm the measurement before placing a custom order.

For wide rings, a slightly different fit may be appropriate compared with narrow rings.

How To Measure A Bangle

Bangle sizing should generally be based on the widest part of the hand through which the bangle needs to pass, rather than only the wrist circumference.

Customers should follow Hansuli’s measurement instructions where provided.

If unsure, customers should contact Hansuli before ordering.

How To Measure A Bracelet

Measure around the wrist comfortably and add the amount of additional room required for the desired fit.

The appropriate allowance depends on whether the customer prefers:

  • Snug fit
  • Regular fit
  • Loose fit

Hansuli may provide size recommendations depending on the bracelet design.

Size Confirmation Before Production

For custom-size jewellery, Hansuli may send the confirmed size to the customer before production.

Customers should carefully check:

  • Size
  • Measurement
  • Unit
  • Finger/wrist/ankle
  • Product
  • Other specifications

Once the customer approves the size, production may begin.

Wrong Size Provided By Customer

If a customer provides or approves an incorrect size and the jewellery is manufactured accordingly, the resulting size mismatch is generally not considered a manufacturing defect.

Resizing may be offered as a paid service, subject to technical feasibility.

Resizing After Purchase

Hansuli may offer resizing after purchase for eligible jewellery.

The jewellery must first be inspected to determine:

  • Whether resizing is possible;
  • How much resizing is required;
  • Whether the design can withstand resizing;
  • Whether stones are affected;
  • Whether the finish will change;
  • Whether additional material is required.

Resizing Charges

Resizing may attract charges based on:

  • Labour
  • Additional silver/material
  • Stone resetting
  • Re-polishing
  • Re-plating
  • Re-oxidisation
  • Engraving restoration
  • Other required work

The applicable charges will be communicated after inspection wherever reasonably possible.

Resizing & Silver Weight

Where additional silver is required to increase the size of jewellery, additional material charges may apply.

Where material must be removed during resizing, the treatment of the removed material will depend on the specific transaction and applicable Hansuli policy.

Any material adjustment should be clearly communicated to the customer before the work is completed.

Resizing & Finish

Resizing may affect the jewellery’s:

  • Polish
  • Texture
  • Oxidised finish
  • Plating
  • Engraving
  • Surface appearance

Hansuli may need to refinish the jewellery after resizing.

Additional charges may apply for re-plating, re-oxidisation, or specialised finishing.

Stone-Set Jewellery

Resizing stone-set jewellery carries additional risks.

Resizing may affect:

  • Stone settings
  • Stone alignment
  • Metal tension
  • Prongs
  • Surface finish

A stone-set piece will be inspected before resizing.

If Hansuli determines that resizing may compromise the jewellery, we may recommend an alternative solution.

Custom / Personalised Jewellery

Custom and personalised jewellery may have limited resizing options.

This is especially applicable where the jewellery contains:

  • Engraving
  • Names
  • Dates
  • Full-pattern designs
  • Special dimensions
  • Customer-specific construction
  • Continuous stone settings

Please refer to the Hansuli Custom & Made-to-Order Policy.

Resizing Of Rings With Engraving

Resizing may affect engraving.

Depending on the amount of resizing, the engraving may:

  • Shift slightly
  • Become distorted
  • Need re-engraving
  • Need partial restoration

Customers will be informed where significant changes are expected.

Resizing Of Oxidised Jewellery

Oxidised jewellery may require re-oxidisation after resizing.

The final oxidised appearance may vary slightly from the original finish because the finish is applied by hand or through a finishing process.

Resizing Of Plated Jewellery

Resizing may disturb plating.

After resizing, re-plating may be required to restore the appearance.

Additional plating charges may apply.

Resizing Risk

Jewellery resizing is a technical process.

Depending on the jewellery, there may be a risk of:

  • Minor surface marks
  • Finish variation
  • Solder marks
  • Stone movement
  • Change in shape
  • Design distortion
  • Weakening of an already fragile piece

Hansuli will exercise reasonable care but cannot guarantee that every jewellery item can be resized without some visual or structural change.

When Resizing May Be Refused

Hansuli may refuse resizing if:

  • The jewellery is too fragile;
  • The required size change is excessive;
  • The design cannot safely be resized;
  • Stones may be compromised;
  • The jewellery has severe damage;
  • Previous unauthorised repairs have weakened it;
  • The metal or construction is unsuitable;
  • Resizing would materially damage the design.

In such cases, Hansuli may recommend remaking or replacing the jewellery.

Remaking Instead Of Resizing

For certain jewellery, remaking may be safer or more appropriate than resizing.

This may apply to:

  • Highly intricate rings
  • Full-pattern bangles
  • Certain stone-set jewellery
  • Extremely thin jewellery
  • Hollow jewellery
  • Complex traditional designs

Remaking will be treated as a new/custom order and may involve additional charges.

Resizing & Exchange Policy

If a customer purchases a standard-size product and later discovers that the size is unsuitable, resizing does not automatically create a right to exchange the product.

Exchange eligibility will be determined according to Hansuli’s applicable Exchange Policy.

Once jewellery has been resized or altered at the customer’s request, it may no longer qualify for exchange under the standard exchange policy.

Resizing & Warranty

Jewellery that has been resized by Hansuli may remain covered by applicable warranty for genuine manufacturing defects, subject to the circumstances.

However, issues caused by:

  • Customer-requested resizing
  • Incorrect customer measurements
  • Subsequent bending
  • Improper handling
  • Unauthorised alteration

may not be covered.

Third-Party Resizing

If jewellery is resized or modified by another jeweller after purchase, Hansuli may not be responsible for damage caused by that alteration.

Unauthorised third-party resizing may affect warranty eligibility.

Resizing Turnaround Time

Resizing timelines depend on:

  • Jewellery type
  • Size change
  • Design complexity
  • Stone setting
  • Finishing
  • Artisan availability
  • Workload

Hansuli will provide an estimated timeline after inspection.

Shipping For Resizing

If the jewellery needs to be sent to Hansuli for resizing, the customer may be responsible for shipping charges unless otherwise agreed.

Where Hansuli arranges return shipping, applicable charges may apply.

Customers should use secure packaging and appropriate shipping methods for valuable jewellery.

Customer Approval

Before resizing, Hansuli may confirm:

  • Current size
  • Required size
  • Estimated charges
  • Expected completion time
  • Any known risks
  • Finish requirements

The customer should approve the resizing specifications before work begins.

Final Inspection

After resizing, customers should inspect:

  • Size
  • Fit
  • Shape
  • Finish
  • Clasp
  • Stones
  • Overall condition

Any concern should be communicated to Hansuli promptly.

Important Fitting Note

Jewellery should be comfortable, but the ideal fit varies from person to person.

Finger and wrist size can naturally change due to:

  • Temperature
  • Exercise
  • Time of day
  • Water retention
  • Weather
  • Other temporary factors

Therefore, a measurement taken at one time may feel slightly different at another time.

Customer Responsibility

Customers are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate measurements;
  • Reviewing size information;
  • Confirming custom sizes;
  • Communicating any special fitting requirements;
  • Following Hansuli’s measurement instructions;
  • Checking the final fit after receiving the jewellery.

Quick Size Guide

Rings

Professional measurement recommended. Avoid relying solely on an old ring unless its size has been verified.

Bangles

Measure according to the widest part of the hand required for the bangle to pass over.

Bracelets

Measure the wrist and select the desired allowance for a snug, regular, or loose fit.

Anklets

Measure the ankle comfortably and allow appropriate movement.

Chains & Necklaces

Select length based on the desired position around the neck and the design of the jewellery.
